Giving Patients Access to Medical Records
You can give login details for patients to access their medical records. The main reason for doing this is to allow patients to read medical notes, view attached files and send secure messages to clinicians. Patients will also be able to write in their medical notes and upload files to EMR.
Please note that you do not need to register patients access to EMR for a video call. As long as you have a mobile phone number or email address associated with the patient, you can initiate a video call without any further requirements.
Pre-requisite
You need an email address for the patient. You can enter this in the demographics page (search and select a patient on Patients page) or you can enter the email while entering a note in the EMR. Typically clinicians find the latter method of collecting email easier to do.
How to give patients access to medical records
- Search and find a patient in Patients page (if you are in the medical records page, clicking the patient's name will take you to the Patients page and display the demographics information automatically).
- If there is an email address, the button to register an online account for patients will be on display (see screenshots)
- Provide your password to confirm you have checked and verified the email, and click 'Continue'.
The patient will receive an email with login credentials. On logging in for the first time, they will need to change password. Once access is gained, the can login on the web or through iOS / Android apps too. Both patients and clinics can change their email address associated with the account.
